Filming under-18s: a match-day safeguarding checklist
Any camera, from a phone to Veo, needs the same safeguarding plan when the players are under 18. Agree it with the club before the first match you film.
Before the season
- Check your club's photography and filming policy and agree the plan with the coach and welfare officer.
- Tell players, parents and the opposition in advance, and give parents the chance to opt out when filming is used for coaching.
- Decide who can see the footage and where it will be stored.
Publishing and live streaming
- Get written parental consent before publishing a player's image or footage, and do not add names or other identifying details without it.
- For live streams, use wide general views, restrict access to people with a legitimate interest such as parents and carers, and switch off or closely monitor chat.
Storing footage
- Store footage in a protected place with restricted access, not on unencrypted phones, laptops or memory sticks.
- Delete footage you no longer need, and know who is responsible for doing it.
